A great start to the day!

I just woke up half an hour ago and as I opened up Cricinfo, all bleary-eyed and full of yawns, I was immediately brought back to life by the score - Aus. 100 for 5! Wow! I pinched myself wondering if this could indeed be true (OK, confirming all doubters, I did not pinch myself; I just hit the reload button :P). Anyway, seeing Australia reeling on the first morning of the Ashes was the best start to the day I could have had. But, with Gilchrist at the crease, I still had my doubts. All you need is an hour of power hitting from Gilchrist with staunch support from Katich and the score is all of a sudden 250 for 5! And my fears grew over the next 20 minutes as Gilchrist smacked 6 fours in the space of 4 overs. Thankfully though, the plot went according to script for England, and a few moments ago Flintoff manage to induce an edge from him which Geraint gleefully accepted.

So, do we finally see the re-emergence of the England team out of the shadows of the Aussie dominance? I guess only time will tell (what a lame cliche :P)! As I have said previously, it all comes down to whether Strauss and Trescothick can handle Lee and McGrath. Australia already seem to have started off the Test on the wrong note by choosing the totally off-colour Gillespie in place of Kasprowicz. I'm sure that decision is going to cost them. For now, let me enjoy the moment! Let us see whether the tables are turned by the end of day's play ...

Update:
This pic says it all ....

Cheers,
Harsha

Yup, they certainly re-emerged out of the shadows of the mediocre aussie batting by revealing new depths of mediocrity!!

Matches are going to be 2-3 day affairs if batting is this mediocre and the bowling (on both sides) is this good.

Sarpatwari (that's the only way of distinguishing between the two of you :P) - well, I don't really have anything to say ... just seething with envy :-X

Karthik - Yes, that's precisely what I felt too. We are going to see 5 two-day tests if the bowling remains so awesome. And, Warne has hardly bowled yet!!

I still feel that the English team is pretty inexperienced to give Aussies a serious run for the money. The Aussies need just 1 partnership to click and the match is theirs....eg Clarke & Martyn Day 2

People might call me crazy but I am supporting the Aussies for a 5-0 rout....I hope that will put the over hyped English cricket back to where it belongs....

Point5 - Dude, how the hell can you support the existing champions? The whole thrill of sports is in watching an underdog dethrone the champion. Having a dominant champion who cannot be challenged by anyone would signal the death of the sport!

Harha,

I have been supporting Australia since the 1992 world cup, time when they weren't that grt...Infact the Proteans ruled the world...True, that my tenure has mostly coincided with their winning streak...but I have supported and believed that they could pull off a victory even at the worst of the times...

More than their victories, I am a fan of the attitude....4 rpo, sportive declarations, great captains like Mark Taylor, Steve Waugh....anf fighters like Bevan, Gilchrist et al.
